The Cemetery Church of All Saints with the Ossuary
The church was built in the cemetery grounds of Sedlec Cathedral around 1400. The church was built with an upper vaulted level and a lower chapel to be used as an ossuary for the mass graved unearthed during it’s construction or those marked for destruction to make room for more burials.
The Ossuary contains the remains of around 60,000 people. In 1870, the Schwarzenberg family employed a local woodcarver, František Rint to put the bone heaps into order. This is what you see today when you visit.
