Minor Basilica and Metropolitan Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception

Manila Cathedral and Basilica is located in Intramuros, the historic walled city located within today’s modern city of Manila. The cathedral serves as the episcopal see for the Archbishop of Manila and is considered as the Mother Church of the Philippines along with the Basilica of Santo Niño in Cebu.

The church was originally established in 1571 and was elevated to cathedral status in 1579. Since then, the cathedral has been damaged and destroyed on numerous occasions. The current structure is the 8th one and was built between 1954-58. It is built in the Neo-Romanesque style and was renovated between 2012-14. This consisted of earthquake retrofitting and subsidence prevention.
