This cathedral is the mother church of the Anglican Diocese of Seychelles and the seat of the Bishop of Seychelles. The cathedral was founded in 1859 by the first Bishop of Mauritius, Vincent William Ryan. Due to the ever increasing congregation, it was decided to rebuild the cathedral and this happened between 2001-04.
