Well, after a rather stressful week at work it was nice to spend today at our cathedral here in Aberdeen. That is, St Andrew’s. As you can see from a previous post, it is part of the the Scottish Episcopal Church and I’ve been a regular attendee here since mid July.

This morning attended the sung Eucharist which is always a good service. I look forward to hearing the Provost’s sermons which are always quite thought provoking. Then this afternoon there was a special Evensong for the Feast of SS Simon and Jude also a Presentation of Friends of Cathedral Music Grant. We were also blessed by having our Bishop in attendance.

I knew it was going to be a special service as the processional hymn was one of my favourites – ‘Ye Holy Angels Bright’ sung to the tune of Darwall’s 148th. There was a great wealth of music and it was wonderful to hear the choir of 37 singing – the Anglican tradition of church music is certainly in a great space here in Aberdeen. It was very good to see the cathedral being presented with a grant of £15,000 to keep this very much alive.
